A Proud Moment for Pakistani Art

Infinite Reflections

Pakistani artists continue to gain remarkable recognition both at home and on the international stage, marking an important cultural moment for the country’s contemporary art landscape.

This year, celebrated artists Hamra Abbas and Salima Hashmi have been honoured with the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz, while Waqas Khan and Waseem Ahmed have received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz — acknowledgements that reaffirm the significance of artistic contribution within Pakistan’s cultural fabric.

Simultaneously, Pakistani contemporary art is making a powerful presence globally. Artists including Adeela Suleman, Aisha Khalid, Khadim Ali, Nusra Latif Qureshi, and Saira Wasim are exhibiting at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), while Faiza Butt and Wardha Shabbir are participating in the Venice Biennale. Shezad Dawood, too, continues to expand the international visibility of South Asian contemporary practices through his work at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Centre.

Together, these milestones reflect the growing global engagement with Pakistani art and the strength, diversity, and intellectual depth of its practitioners. From institutional honours to major international exhibitions, Pakistani artists are increasingly receiving the recognition and patronage they have long deserved.

For the art community, this is not only a moment of celebration, but also a reminder of how vital sustained artistic support and visibility remain for the future of culture in the region.
