Lawrie Shabibi is participating in the inaugural edition of Art Week Riyadh, with the overall curatorial theme being At The Edge, a selection of works by pioneering artists whose practices interrogate themes of materiality, structure, and abstraction. This exhibition reflects on the interplay between physical and conceptual systems, offering diverse perspectives on how we perceive and interact with the evolving material world.

Mounir Fatmi (b. 1970, Morocco) blends tradition and modernity in Calligraphy of the Unknown, fusing Arabic script with stock market graphs to explore language, technology, and societal flux, along with his circular sculptures made from coaxial antenna cables, inspired by Descartes’ theorem. Dima Srouji (b. 1990, Palestine) layers real and speculative maps of Jerusalem in The Rule of Superpositions 2, reimagining spatial and temporal narratives, whereas Hamra Abbas (b. 1976, Pakistan) transforms aerial views of the Karakoram mountains into intricate marble inlays in Aerial Studies 6, blending natural topography with Mughal craftsmanship. Shaikha Al Mazrou (b. 1988, UAE) evolves delicate paper prototypes into bold folded steel sculptures, balancing fragility and permanence.

Art Week Riyadh runs from 6 – 13 April, 2025.
