TURHAN – THE BEAUTIFUL, THE BIZARRE
The two Lahore based artists, Hoor Imad Sherpao and Noormah Jamal, had their two-person show on 31st Aug 2018 at O Art Space. Noormah’s work was based on human complexity and the personal baggage that people carry. She has always been drawn to what separates or defines an individual. By working on multiple pieces at the same time, she likes to see how each develops with contrast to the other. How each in the end depicts a different emotion through visual gesture.
Whereas, Hoor Imad Sherpao uses women figures heavily in her work. These women are all known and familiar to the artist. According to her physical beauty is an important feature and source of negotiation both within the painted frame and outside it. Her work not only visually relies on the idea of attractiveness but also features eerie, sublime elements of discomfort such as piercing expressions of the female, doppelgangers and a mysterious demeanor of the figure.
