The idea of sacred has a diverse meaning and each person may have a different understanding of it. Back in the days, even before its conventionalized religious meaning, Sacred meant ‘to cut’, ‘to separate’ as prof. Veikko Anttonen has mentioned in his theory of the sacred.
He further elaborates that, ‘People have greater intellectual and moral freedom to create their own ‘sacred’ moments within their secular cosmology, by setting apart specific times, places, events and persons and marking their significance by specific symbolic means. These forms of behaviour are culturally based on the idea of using specific ritual strategies to mark one’s physical and mental self as separate from the routines of everyday social life.’
As a result, based on this concept, each work has a distinct meaning and a viewpoint on the idea of sacred.
