Opening: Saturday, June 2nd, 3 p.m.
We are proud to present the first solo exhibition of Imran Channa in the Netherlands! Imran graduated from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan. He continued his studies at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. Recently he just finished his fellowship at prestigious Harvard University in South Asia Institute, USA.
Channa’s primary interest is in historical documentation and how that documentation creates narratives, information, and misinformation. He uses drawing, the moving image, installation and digital technology as means to re-examine historical documents and their influence, so inviting audiences to contemplate the contradictions of how we record and understand history.
The exhibition ‘Parts in Particles’ presents a series of erased drawings of politically and historically charged images of ancient ruins of religious temples in India.
By drawing an exact copy of a photo, Channa then smooths out the image through erasure. This results in ghostly images that bear a minimal resemblance to the original drawings, raising questions about the persistence of images, duration of time, memory and fact and fiction.
Pasts in Particles is on view until Sunday, July 1st, 2018.
