Alyssa Pheobus Mumtaz is an American artist whose recent work explores contemplative metaphors drawn from South Asian mysticism and devotional culture. Influenced by her evolving relationship with Pakistan and parallel travels in India, her intricately crafted artworks are meditative both in form and orientation.
She attended Yale University and completed her MFA at Columbia University’s School of the Arts in New York City. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo and group presentations in Lahore, Mumbai, New York, London and Dubai. Her work has also been supported by fellowships from the Kittredge Fund, the Lighton International Artist Exchange Program, the Mid Atlantic Art Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Neiman Center for Print Studies, New York. She is currently based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
