How to make a contemporary landscape was held at O Art Space in Lahore, displaying works of Saba Khan and Suleman Khilji.
Khan’s work is filled with humour and satire, looking at the class divisions in our society through layers of aesthetics. Using elements like glitter, paint and crystals as tropes to highlight the emerging affluent-class, whereas, on the other hand, she uses religious ceremonies, homes and the bazaars to highlight what we call as ‘Bad taste’. With such inside jokes and symbols she successfully makes a sharp commentary on political and social conditions of our society.
Whereas, Suleman Khilji’s work focuses on image making exploring different landscapes and its context in contemporary framework. His body of work attempts to address various viewpoints, responses to idea and visual of landscapes, characters and floating objects.
