Syed Hassan Mujtaba’s show “Between Black and White” exhibited a total six portraits at Sanat Initiative Gallery on July 2018. His skillful application of charcoal, lead and graphite made the images identifiable as a whole despite them being fragments. These drawings illustrate three stages of a narrative. The first stage being transition, second society’s pressure and third institutionalize. Mujtaba also brings into conversation pilgrimage and hijab. The artist believes, “we melt to color societies”.
