Artist talk and paper-relief workshop

A talk and paper-relief workshop by German artist, Benigna Chilla onThursday, 8th February at Faraar Gallery,T2F.
Paper-relief is a simple, DIY means of printing using every day tools. Inspired by ancient, geometric patterns found in architecture, textiles, and nature, Benigna Chilla breaks them down into their most basic forms, isolates sections, analyzes how all the pieces fit together, plays with color and then finally recreates the original inspiration as a completely new design. Benigna Chilla presents her work to the viewer as an optical illusion through the layering of see-through surfaces.

Benigna Chilla:
Benigna Chilla began her art training in her native Germany at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. She moved to the USA in 1969, where she completed her graduate studies and then taught as Professor of Visual Arts until her retirement in 2011. She now teaches workshops to non-traditional art students in South Asia each winter. Benigna continues to produce work in her home studio and has had over forty solo exhibitions in the USA and internationally.
